ABOUT US

Who is the Lawrenceville Woman’s Club?

The LWC was chartered by the General Federation of Women’s Clubs in October 1970 with 20 members. We are members of the Georgia Federation of Women’s Clubs and the national General Federation. The General Federation is the largest organization of women in the world, and had its beginnings in 1890 in New York. The purpose of the LWC is to provide an organizational framework for its members to improve the quality of life on a local, state, national and international level.

What has LWC done?

The membership of the LWC has had a powerful impact on the Gwinnett community. We provided the leadership to begin the Gwinnett Council for the Arts, Gwinnett Clean and Beautiful, and the Gwinnett Hospital Auxiliary. Our interests are as varied as our membership. Our goal as a group of caring women is to help determine the needs of the community and work to fulfill those needs. This is accomplished through our Community Improvement Projects (CIP) program.

How does LWC work?

The LWC is led by an Executive Board which is made up of the elected officers, the department chairwomen, the community improvement chairwomen, and the newsletter chairwomen. The purpose of the Executive Board (most commonly called "the Board") is to help coordinate plans for the club, review all requests for the club’s help and present its recommendations to the club for approval.

The Board meets two Wednesdays before the general club meeting to review the plans for each department, discuss any club wide projects and to gather the information for the newsletter. The newsletter will then be mailed or emailed to members prior to the monthly meeting. Our service work at all levels – local, state, national, and international – falls into six departments of work: The Arts, Conservation, Education, Home Life, International Affairs, and Public Affairs.

What’s in LWC membership for you?

The LWC will provide an opportunity for you to interact with other women with similar as well as diverse interests and backgrounds. By working together toward a common goal, you will enrich your life as well as the lives of the people you touch.

What will it cost you in time and money?

The dues of the club are $44 a year for active members and $50 for sustaining members. Attendance at all regularly scheduled meetings is expected. The majority of your club work will be through your own choices. You are encouraged to participate as much as your interests dictate and your time allows.

At times the Board will require participation through time or money in certain club wide projects. We hope to provide the opportunity for you to choose to participate in projects, which include your current interests in the community as well as help you develop new interest.
